Introducing
the
20th NABS President-Elect
Greetings NABS Family and Friends,
Chetter Galloway is a storyteller rooted in African and African
American traditions. A native of Suffolk, Virginia, and the youngest
of eleven children, grew up listening to his father’s stories on
family road trips. His favorite, “The Talking Skull,” a West African
cautionary tale, sparked his passion for storytelling.
Chetter began his career as a Living History Interpreter at The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Virginia Tech and a Master of Arts in Education with a concentration in Storytelling from East Tennessee State University. From folktales to personal narratives, he brings his distinctive touch to every story—a style he calls “Chetterizing.”
Chetter has performed at the Smithsonian, National Black Arts Festival, National Storytelling Festival, National Parks Service, and The Moth. He won The Moth Story Slam on his birthday in 2024 and the National Storytelling Festival’s Story Slam in 2026. His two storytelling recordings are Evil Knows Where Evil Sleeps and Fresh Squeezed Carrot Juice: Tales of Brer Rabbit. As part of his educational work, he spent ten years as a Young Audiences roster artist.
Chetter serves on the board of directors for Kuumba Storytellers of Georgia and is a member of Toastmasters International. An avid runner, he enjoys crafting stories as he runs. His favorite proverb, “A stumble is not a fall,” reflects his engaging and resilient approach to both life and storytelling. With warmth and entertainment, he invites audiences to “Feel the rhythm and live the story!”
With gratitude and storytelling spirit,
Chetter Galloway
